Many, many thanks to all my customers who have placed their trust in me over the years. You come from all over the world including Canada, the USA, Turkey, India, the Philippines, Russia, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, etc. As a Spanish teacher, I could not be more proud of reaching this milestone.
Reaching this milestone proved to be a bit challenging, but it was well worth it. I have, and I still enjoy helping students learn, not only Spanish, but also its rich culture, history, and gastronomy. How did I reach this goal? Here’s my story.
Environment and languages have always been my passions. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Marine Science and worked on this field until 2014. However, life has a way of pulling you in different directions, giving you the opportunity to work in fields that you equally love.
In 2014, I moved to Thunder Bay, a small city along Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada, and I decided to focus my attention on my second love: teaching Spanish. By the end of 2013, I was a proud, certified Spanish teacher from the Instituto Cervantes. I decided to stablish my first company under the name “Hola Spanish Lessons”.
From 2016 to 2019, along with growing my company, I also taught Spanish at the local college (Confederation College) and university (Lakehead University) in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada
In 2019, my husband and I moved to other cities in Canada. Although sad at the thought of saying goodbye to my students in Thunder Bay, I took online courses designed to help me adapt my teaching methodology to a digital format. By year end, I had established my new online Spanish learning business: Alive Spanish.
Thanks to all the students who followed my journey and quickly adapted to online classes.
In 2021, I returned to Europe where I had the opportunity to go on with my online business from my homeland, Spain.
In 2023, I expanded my services and I started offering Spanish immersion trips. Actually, I had already hosted two trips with students, something I truly enjoyed.
The first was with a group of 15 people. We visited Sevilla, Córdoba, Granada, Madrid, Toledo and some chose to visit also my hometown, Valdepeñas. You can find more information on the blog.
The second was a private immersion trip for one student who wished to discover my hometown, as well as others in the land of Don Quixote.

Here I am, still helping students from around the world learn Spanish through a variety of means including online classes, feedback, monthly fresh news related to Spanish and its culture and immersion trips to the land of my ancestors.

At the end of 2013, I finished my first studies to become a proud, certified Spanish Teacher as a Second Language by Instituto Cervantes.
2014

Although sad at the thought of saying goodbye to my students, I took an online course designed to help me adapt my teaching methodology to a digital one. By year end, I had established my new online Spanish learning business: Alive Spanish and here I am, still enjoying and helping Spanish students and travelling to Spain with them, too.
2024
From 2013 to present, as one who values lifelong learning, I have taken additional courses and I am now an accredited examiner for the Spanish Official Exams (DELE), A1-A2 and B1-B2 levels
My story
Environment and languages have always been my passions and I hold a bachelor’s degree in Marine Science. Whenever I traveled outside of Spain, I loved talking to the locals in their native tongue. This could be funny and challenging at times, as English and French are the two languages that I speak.
Environment and languages have always been my passions and I hold a bachelor’s degree in Marine Science and worked on this field until 2014. However, life changes sometimes and gives you opportunities to work on different fields you love, too.
Following my experience in France, I was eager to perfect my English and to find out more about foreign countries. That’s why I decided to spend a few months in Galway, Ireland, to achieve this goal. I did language exchanges and the idea of teaching Spanish as a second language grew exponentially.
Once I came back to Spain where I stayed until 2014. More determined than ever to expand my horizons, I participated in a number of language exchanges in different cities where I lived, including Barcelona, Tarragona, Murcia and Alicante.
In 2012, while working on environmental projects and talking to a colleague in Murcia, I came upon a course to become a certified Spanish teacher. I registered and took several more courses from the “Instituto Cervantes”. By 2014, I was a proud, certified Spanish Teacher as a Second Language.
From 2016 to 2019, I also thought Spanish at the local college (Confederation College) and university (Lakehead University).

Alive Spanish is designed as an online academy for customized lessons, based on the needs of each student. It provides information, not only about the language, but also about everything associated with it. To complement this experience, I have begun to offer immersion trips in Spain. As one who values lifelong learning, I have taken additional courses and I am now an accredited examiner for the Spanish Official Exams (DELE), A1-A2 and B1-B2 levels.
I also participate in conferences and take new courses from the Instituto Cervantes and other organizations, all with the goal of improving my teaching skills and of remaining, so to speak, in the loop.
